The Courtyard – A Social Hub?

The courtyard of the centenary works seemed like a focal point on site. At present this space is given over to car parking, but it would seem to have the potential to be a much more social and interesting space. By removing the parking requirements of this courtyard it could become a space for play, socialising and help promote cycling – a social hub, tying together the surrounding buildings and businesses.

Cycling and walking around the site and nearby roads leaves a lot to be desired with cars parked along the footpath and busy roads. By addressing the car parking, potentially in a specific car parking structure, the pavements could be freed up; which would give space for better footpaths and potentially cycling paths. However this will need to be investigated in more depth especially in relation to all the automotive workshops nearby.
