Typologies & Materials

typology & materials.jpg

The site consists of a number of different typologies. The housing areas have an almost identical style, as in most traditional English neighbourhoods. Most houses are detached, using predominantly red brick for the wall construction and having pitched shingle roofs. The industrial area is comprised mostly by industrial type red brick buildings with saw-tooth roofs, although steel frame buildings with cladding panels of different types of metal. Timber is rarely seen, apart from some fairly recent renovations, such as doors and windows. Most industrial buildings and some house façades need some attention and the site in general needs to be cleaned, as the lack of care and the pollution of the river have degraded the whole area. Even though there are different typologies, the area seems to have a connection in terms of its character.
