Taking inspiration from Ancoats Art Museum (Thomas Horsfall // Art for Wellbeing), Manchester based mental-health charity ’42nd Street’ are currently running a creative programme which aims to bring together young people and the wider public with artists, mental health practitioners and heritage experts to improve mental wellbeing.
The project began with the renovation and repurposing of an empty, Victorian shop into a three storey, dedicated creative space. The Creative agents meet every week to participate in practical workshops and research trips to galleries, the theatre and heritage sites. Some of the activities so far have included a theatre installation with young carers, public art pieces, mindfulness sessions, art sessions and even a project to invent a new flavour of ice cream.
